Transforming Investor Reporting with Personalised, Data‑Driven Insights

Investment teams are under growing pressure to deliver timely, accurate, and personalised reporting to their customers. Yet for many organisations, the process behind these reports is still heavily manual. Data must be extracted from operational source systems, calculations run in spreadsheets, and visuals assembled for one customer at a time. It’s slow, resource intensive, and difficult to scale.

But it really shouldn’t be.

One51 recently helped a leading major Australian property investment and funds management group reimagine their investor reporting process by leveraging their existing data platform and modern analytics tools. The result was a streamlined, automated, and highly personalised reporting experience that saves time and elevates the customer experience.

The Challenge: Manual, Repetitive Reporting

The team’s starting point will sound familiar to many investment and wealth management organisations:

  • Exporting transaction level data for each customer from the source system
  • Running calculations manually in Excel
  • Producing basic tables and visuals
  • Cross checking the numbers and calculations
  • Sharing the output with customers individually

This approach worked but put pressure on a busy team. As customer expectations grew and reporting demands increased, the process became a bottleneck. The team needed a scalable, efficient way to deliver tailored insights without sacrificing quality.

The Solution: A Modern, Data Driven Reporting Framework

The turning point came from making use of the work that the organisation had invested in their data platform. Transaction data was sitting in the data platform which was readily available in other reports. It was clean, structured, and ready to be used more effectively.

By integrating this data into Power BI and building the required investment calculations directly into the model, we created a dynamic, self service reporting experience that transformed the team’s workflow.

Key elements of the solution included:

  • Leveraging existing data assets rather than exporting from source systems
  • Building new investment metrics and calculations directly in Power BI
  • Designing a flexible reporting interface that adapts to each customer’s needs

The Outcome: Personalised Investor Reporting at Scale

The result is a new Power BI report page that empowers the team to generate tailored investor reports in seconds – not hours in 4 steps:

  1. Customer selection Choose any customer from a simple dropdown.
  2. Metric selection Pick the exact metrics (columns) to include—whether it’s the full set or a curated subset tailored to the customer’s investment profile.
  3. Standardised visuals Charts and insights are pre built, branded, and consistent across all customers.
  4. Ready to share output Every report is professionally formatted and can be sent to customers on a regular schedule or on demand.

What once required manual data pulls and spreadsheet gymnastics is now a seamless, repeatable process powered by the organisation’s own data platform.

Why This Matters

Personalised investor reporting isn’t just a nice to have – it’s a competitive differentiator. Customers expect transparency, clarity, answers to their specific questions, and insights that speak directly to their investment journey.

By modernising the reporting process, organisations can:

  • Reduce operational overhead
  • Improve accuracy and consistency
  • Deliver a better customer experience
  • Free up teams to focus on higher value analysis

This project is a powerful example of how data and analytics can unlock efficiency and elevate customer engagement – without requiring a full system overhaul.
